While Disney will shut down outdoor rides if lightening is detected within a 3 mile radius, a lot of the rides will remain open if it is just raining. This is a perfect time to ride water rides like Splash Mountain, and Kali River Rapids since you are already wet. Also, all indoor attractions (and Disney has a lot of them) remain open. A lot of people tend to head out of the parks when the rain starts. So, you can take advantage of shorter lines. Rather than packing it up, put on a poncho and embrace it. (You can purchase ponchos at almost every park, resort and Downtown Disney store. But, my advice is to pick one up at Wal-Mart, etc. before you go and save some money.)
Another fun thing to do in the rain is Monorail resort hop. You can hop on the resort monorail at the Magic Kingdom or the Ticket and Transportation Center, which can also be accessed from EPCOT. The resort monorail stops at the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian resorts. You can hop off at each to check out their unique décor, look around the gift shops, or stop and have a drink or snack. (Check with a Cast Member beforehand to make sure the monorail hours are not shortened during your visit.)
The weather may not be absolutely perfect, but it doesn't mean your Disney vacation won’t be.
